Jonnie's Goodguys - #DoGoodStuff
founded by drum corps family that educates & advocates for aortic, heart, & connective tissue related health issues
For most of us, he came into our world in 1990-93, when he marched with Star of Indiana Drum & Bugle Corps. Drum Corps has a way of turning friends into family and Jon is family to many.
In November 2005, Jon collapsed at work and was unresponsive. Medics were called and a co-worker tried to resuscitate him. Not knowing what was really wrong, they rushed him to the ER. Doctors tried everything but could not bring him back. An autopsy later revealed a dissected Aorta, that lead to cardiac tamponade as cause of death. Even if Jon had been in the ER on monitors when he dissected, he still would have only had a 50/50 chance of survival. He was 33, happily married, and absolutely giddy over his 6 month old daughter.
Jonnie is our motivation, drive, and inspiration.
Applicants will be asked for basic information & then be asked to do a phone/video interview. Finalists will be chosen & asked to complete some aortic/heart/connective tissue health related tasks that align with our "educate & advocate" mission. Rubric scoring will determine the value of scholarship up to $1000 for corps dues. Initial application must be submitted by May 1, 2022.

Our friends here provide enormous resources
when it comes to "life-threatening genetic conditions",
including conditions related to Marfan Syndrome.
While probably the most recognized & oldest organization in the Heart field, this group has helped to fund research that identifies correlated issues, like Stroke, as well.
Although a newer area to us and our learning about Heart related issues,
we are finding that FH is becoming more commonly diagnosed.
And yes, it's hard to pronounce.
Our friends at JRF have helped establish Aortic Health guidelines like
Ritter Rules & funded research at The John Ritter Research Program.
The JRRP continues to identify more genetic markers
that can lead to Aortic Dissections.
Not only does Upland make some fine beverages, they have a Drum Corps Alum as a brewer!
Thanks for supporting our annual Tailgate during Finals week!
We are always looking for community partners & volunteers!
